Two's Day Party (2-22-22)

We celebrated 2-22-22 by having lots of famous pairs for food and by doing some crafts that were centered around the number 2.

For dinner we had Burger and Friday, Fish and Chips, Mac and Cheese, Cheese and Crackers, Chips and Dip, Bread and Butter, Cookies and Milk, Twin Pops, Double Bubble, Pears, and Zebra Cakes.

We played a game where we rolled two die, added the sum, and the person rolling could then color in a square displaying that number. If there wasn't a square available to color, the person lost their turn. The person that had the most squares colored at the end was the winner.

We used tangrams to make the shape of 2. We matched famous pairs and then found the answers in a word search. We also talked about what the kids thought their lives would be like when they are 22.

2022 Super Bowl Party

The referees are made from sugar wafer cookies. I dipped the bottom in white chocolate and the tip of the top in milk chocolate. I attached half of a melting disc to the top to make it look like a hat. Than I put some melted milk chocolate in a ziploc bag and piped on the eyes, mouth, and shirt stripes.

For this meatball calzone, I used half of a roll of pizza dough and cut it in the shape of a football. I put meatballs, marinara, and mozzarella cheese on top of the pizza dough. I used a rolling pin to roll out the remaining dough and covered the meatball mixture. I had a little bit of pretzel dough left so I put that on as the laces. I covered it all in an egg wash and baked this on a greased pan for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.

We each picked 20 squares.
Our commercial bingo cards are all printed and ready too.

Encanto Birthday Cake

Rachel asked for an Encanto cake that featured Isabella and Delores for her 10 1/2 birthday. She also did not want any fondant, so this 4-tiered cake is made of cake decorating frosting (2 lbs baking Crisco, 8 cups powdered sugar, 8 Tbsp milk, and 2 tsp vanilla) and a few of the flowers, the cactus, and the path are made from melted chocolate. For the doorways, I printed the images and using a glue stick, stuck the image to a piece of wax paper. The wax paper sticks to the frosting very well.

I made another version of this cake for my niece. She wanted other characters' doors, so the colors match those characters.

Winter Olympic Party

We started with these baked donut rings. I mixed 1 cup flour, 1/3 cup sugar, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt in a bowl. In a separate bowl, I mixed 2 Tbsp melted butter, 1 egg, 1/3 cup milk, and 1 tsp vanilla. I added the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mixed until it was just incorporated. (Don't overmix). I put the batter in a Ziploc bag, cut off a corner of the bag, and piped the batter in a 6 piece donut pan that I greased first. Bake for 8 minutes at 350 degrees. Then I made some glaze (1 cup powdered sugar, 2 Tbsp milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla) Dip the donuts in the glaze and add sprinkles.

We made bobsleds out of cups.
I made a hockey rink in a tin container. I used a sharpie to draw on the red and blue marks. I covered the white paper with wax paper and then froze the entire thing. The hockey sticks were made from large popsicle sticks and tape. I made the goals out of pipe cleaners. The puck is a button.

For the medals, I mixed 1 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup cornstarch in a saucepan. I added a little less than 3/4 cup water and stirred. Turn the heat on medium and stir for about 5 minutes, or until it is a play dough consistency. Put the dough on the table and let it cool until you can knead it with your hands. When it is cool, roll it out with a rolling pin and cut using a cookie cutter. We made designs in the dough at this stage too. I used a straw to make rings and cut a hole in the top for ribbon. We also carved out 1, 2, and 3 and USA on some of them. I let them dry on the counter overnight.

We painted the dried medals. I ended up using two pipe cleaners to use as a ribbon.
We finished the party by doing some sledding...
and for a warmer competition, we played Wii Sports.
