Homemade Caramels or Turtles

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup light karo syrup
1 can sweetened condensed milk
I used about 1 cup of mixed nuts-any nuts would work-or they can made without nuts.
about 2 cups of melting chocolate disks

Dump the nuts in a greased 9X13 inch pan.

Mix the butter, sugar, brown sugar, karo syrup, and condensed milk in a saucepan. Let it come to a low boil (stirring constantly--it will burn if you let it boil too hard.)
Cook for 6 minutes.
Pour the caramel over the nuts. Let it set in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. I then scored the caramels and let the pan sit in the refrigerator overnight. I used a metal lifter to take the caramels out of the pan and then dipped them in melted chocolate. Let them set on wax paper.
The caramels are bottom left on the plate.
