Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon yeast
1/4 cup warm water
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 Tablespoons butter
1 egg
2 1/2- 2 3/4 cups flour
Oil for frying
Mix the yeast and warm water in a mixing bowl. Meanwhile, scald the milk in the microwave. Add the sugar, salt, and butter to the milk after it cools a little bit. Mix with the yeast.
Add the egg and 1 cup flour. Stir. Add the remaining flour, mixing until smooth.
Cover and let rise for about an hour, or until doubled.
Place dough on a floured surface. Roll out the dough. Cut into circles. Separate in the middle to create the ring. (I just did this with my fingers.)
Fry in oil (I used Canola) for about 20 seconds on each side. Let drain on a cooling rack.
To make glaze, I mixed about 2 cups powdered sugar, 3 Tablespoons milk, 1 teaspoon melted butter, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
Dip the doughnuts in the glaze.
